Long time campers will be excited to welcome back Mischa Herman as a tutor at this year's camp! Beginners will love Mischa's easy-to-grasp approach to playing, and more experienced players will find new musical challenges to explore on the whistle.
Mischa is a talented multi-instrumentalist, sound engineer/producer whose musical interests encompass a wide range of traditional and contemporary folk, nu-acoustic, classical and contemporary music genres.
Always interested in exploring different genres, he has played with singer-songwriter Lucy Wise, tango quintet Collectivo29, instrumental folk duo Evan & Mischa and previously as an orchestral woodwind player.
His brilliant whistle playing evokes the joys of creating and playing new music, which he hopes to share with his classes at this year's camp.
Catering information is now up on the website - get your orders in to Deb soon and help us win the war against food waste!
Guitarists get excited because this year's tutor is Jim Green, a Melbourne based guitarist influenced by the liked of Ry Cooder, Andy Irvine, and Richard Thompson. Jim has played music professionally in Switzerland, Ireland and has toured New Caledonia ten times in as many years.
Having played in a legion of Celtic bands at various festivals over 20 years, Jim has now turned to writing his own tunes and songs in local bands of a more folk/blues persuasion.
Jim's workshops at Turramurra Music Camp were well received and we know he'll have something special for all guitarists at this year's Rosewood Camp.
Rosewood camp is so lucky to have a wonderful network of talented and generous tutors to call on every year. You can find program details for our 2017 camp here and tutor information here.
In the lead up to camp we'll be featuring a tutor or two each week or so, little teasers to get you excited about what's in store for this year. To kick off, meet Jess Foot, our Fiddle tutor!
Jess is a freelance oboist and fiddler with classical/baroque/folky/improv/new music persuasions. She performs a diverse range of music for orchestras, chamber music projects and recordings.
Jess' fiddle style includes strains of Celtic, Scandinavian, Quebecois, Old-time and Middle Eastern modal music. She performs at festivals, country halls, house concerts, birthday parties and the like - with Duck Duck Goose (quirky double-reed Trad), the Homegrown Quartet (original tunes), The Neon Effect (contemporary Aussie Trad) and in her duo with Louise Godwin. For many years she has also delighted in improv. collaboration with the multi-instrumentalist and composer Carl Pannuzzo.
But the most important thing to know about Jess is that she makes everyone around her feel relaxed and ready for fun!
Hello music makers! We are almost ready to release tickets for the 2017 camp so stay tuned and make sure you've locked in the dates - Friday September 29th to Monday October 1st.
Our tutors are confirmed and we'll have them on the site shortly. We welcome back Aryo and Aaron from last year to run the Youth Band and Instant band workshops - yay! Plus some favourite tutors from other years AND some new faces too. We are yet to confirm whether the baby wombat is coming again - we can only hope! It turns out that (s)he was a rescue wombat from a nearby property who just couldn't resist the amazing sounds from our concert and had to be part of the fun.
Keep an eye on your inboxes and tell your friends to make sure you're signed on to our email list so that they get all the updates as they're published.
