Hello Rosewood & Roses Gap Music Campers past and present.
This year is our 21st birthday and you are all invited to the party. And we need your help. We would love to see your photos and videos of past camps. In the tradition of 21st birthday parties we will look back on past photos and see how we have all grown up through the years.
We would especially love to see photos of your family, children, and friends, over the period you've been attending the camps, your funny photos, your cute photos, and your stories.
Think of the years in 5 year blocks - 1998-2002, 2003-2007, 2008-2012, 2013-2017. We are very keen to get photos from each of these periods so have a look through your archives and dig out your memories to share with us. We want your photos and your stories. To help us put together our archive, please give us your commentary of the photos. Let us know where you all are now in your music making and how the camps have influenced your lives.
You can contact me on 0403-067-533 or email
Thankyou! Jackie for the Rosewood planning team.

Happy New year all you music lovers and makers out there! Save the date for this year's camp - Friday 28th September to Monday 1st of October.
Some of you will be aware that Turramurra Camp is now under the auspice of the Roses Gap Music Club Inc.
This is all to do with governance and not something that will affect your day to day experience of camps, however -
We will be changing the name of the Roses Gap Music Club Inc. to something that better reflects who we are and what we do now. Suggestions are welcome - something that reflects the fact that we run music camps in Victoria would be good.
An Annual General Meeting of the incorporated association is planned for August 2018. More news as it comes to hand...
Summary of dates for 2018
Jan 19-22: Turramurra Camp
April: Call for volunteers Rosewood Camp

Tutor of the week - Louise Godwin
Cellists, rejoice! Finally a special workshop JUST FOR YOU and any other stringed instrument who wishes they were a cello.
Louise is a cellist, arts manager and researcher, and is currently undertaking a PhD at RMIT University exploring the intersection of identity and the diverse musical practices of professional classical musicians.
She currently performs with the Homegrown Quartet and collaborates with Jessica Foot in an inventive modern folk duo. Louise has performed with various musicians and bands, including Scottish quintet Taliska, and loves any chance to play and collaborate with musicians of diverse traditions when opportunities arise!
Her current musical interests sees her extending her musical identity and language under the influence of Scandinavian traditional music.
BUT did you also know that Louise is a freelance researcher/writer/editor and PhD candidate at RMIT University. She has a Master in Education (Research) from RMIT University and a Bachelor of Music (Hons) from The University of Melbourne.
Her current research interests include: inter-/transcultural musicianship, career construction, enjoyment, lifelong learning, orality, portfolio musicians, folk and traditional music. Find out more about Louise at her website.
Campers wishing to purchase a bunk bed are advised that there are a limited amount of beds available. Email us at rgmcinc at gmail.com including phone number to be put in touch with the lovely Vera who will advise if there is a bed configuration to suit you.
This year's ensemble is bound to be "Ottimo" with these guys in charge!
Together, Rod and Finn will help you to create and perform music in camp ensemble that relates to the stunning local Rosewood environment.
Rod has been a long time active participant variously as musician, tutor, student and parent at the Roses Gap/Rosewood and Turramurra Music Camps.
He is an experienced performer and classroom music teacher. He loves to play guitar, ukulele and specialises in the recorder. Rod is also a keen environmentalist and worked for many years as a campaigner for the Wilderness Society, VNPA and Environment Victoria.
Finn is one of those "music camp kids" who've grown into amazingly musical, kind and generous adults. He will be a familiar face to many of you, having been heavily involved in Youth Band leadership over previous camps and can be found around campfires engaged in some gnarly harmony singing with the other "music camp kids" and the friends they've gathered together over the years.
Long time campers will be excited to welcome back Mischa Herman as a tutor at this year's camp! Beginners will love Mischa's easy-to-grasp approach to playing, and more experienced players will find new musical challenges to explore on the whistle.
Mischa is a talented multi-instrumentalist, sound engineer/producer whose musical interests encompass a wide range of traditional and contemporary folk, nu-acoustic, classical and contemporary music genres.
Always interested in exploring different genres, he has played with singer-songwriter Lucy Wise, tango quintet Collectivo29, instrumental folk duo Evan & Mischa and previously as an orchestral woodwind player.
His brilliant whistle playing evokes the joys of creating and playing new music, which he hopes to share with his classes at this year's camp.
Catering information is now up on the website - get your orders in to Deb soon and help us win the war against food waste!
Guitarists get excited because this year's tutor is Jim Green, a Melbourne based guitarist influenced by the liked of Ry Cooder, Andy Irvine, and Richard Thompson. Jim has played music professionally in Switzerland, Ireland and has toured New Caledonia ten times in as many years.
Having played in a legion of Celtic bands at various festivals over 20 years, Jim has now turned to writing his own tunes and songs in local bands of a more folk/blues persuasion.
Jim's workshops at Turramurra Music Camp were well received and we know he'll have something special for all guitarists at this year's Rosewood Camp.
